The activity of the Religious Freedom Laboratory is to raise the level of social awareness in the following areas:
• the existence and even the observed intensification of violations of the freedom of conscience and religion as well as religious crime,
• preventing these phenomena,
• recognizing the causes and mechanisms of crimes directed against believers,
• responding effectively to acts of: insult, discrimination, hostility or hatred towards believers and violations of the right to freedom of conscience and religion.
Information and consultation centerThe information and consultation center is to help reach people who have experienced violations of the freedom of conscience and religion, and victims of religious violence. The activities of the Center are aimed at providing such people with the necessary support in terms of contact with relevant institutions, as well as disseminating knowledge about legal regulations guaranteeing freedom of conscience and religion.
Expert materials and popularizing publications
We prepare and make available expert materials, substantive recommendations for curricula covering the subject of religious freedom as well as popularizing content and publications distributed through various communication channels. Our most important initiatives include:
• active online map of violations of religious freedom,
• series of expert statements „Academy of Freedom”,
• the blogosphere of freedom,
• interdisciplinary online „Dictionary of Religious Freedom”.
Education and preventionWe direct our activities to the environments with the greatest impact on education and shaping public opinion: teachers, lawyers, journalists, and broad social groups. We support the theory with practice in the form of trainings, workshops, international, national and regional events.
International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or BeliefThe main accent of the Laboratory's year-round activities is the celebration of the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief (August 22). It was established in 2019 by the UN General Assembly as a response to the growing number of cases of persecution and discrimination for the sake of faith. In 2020, many offices and cultural institutions were involved in the celebrations organized by us, and they lit their buildings in red. On the Castle Hill in Dobrzyń on the Vistula River, we lit torches and said a prayer for the persecuted. The idea of the Day was also expressed in the prayers of representatives of various faiths during the ecumenical meeting „Vistula connects”, which took place as part of the Vistula Festival. More information on the celebration can be found
